Svaneti (6) Kala

On the way back from Ushguli we stop along the road near the village of Kala. Here we climb up the hill to visit Saint Kvirike's Church (12th Century) on the peak.
You can barely see the church on top of the hill

The climb was brutal, but the views from the top are great.

Do you see our car on the road down below?

The church was very small, but notable for the treasures stored inside. It was common for churches in these remote areas to be used to store religious valuables from all over Georgia during times of foreign invasions.

Although cameras weren't supposed to be used inside, I was able to hold my camera at waist level and film a short movie as we crowded into the building.
