There is a bit of a story to go with that news. Here it is briefly told.
Andrew was corrupted when he was young. At that time, we were in Tokyo and Julie was working at Tokyo Disneyland (Andrew was born in 1982, Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983). Since she was dancing in the parade two days a week, we would take Andrew out to "Mickey's house" every weekend.
Of course, he became a Disney "nut." (A bit of a diversion... you can see Julie back then at 1 minute 13 seconds in the YouTube video here:)
One thing they really wanted was a Disney wedding. However, after checking into it and even visiting with a Disney wedding planner in Southern California, they realized how impractical that was. Not just impractical... too expensive... figure $30,000+ for a wedding in one of the Disneyland hotels which are outside of the park, and much, much more if you want to get married inside Disneyland.
So, how about plan "B" instead? Just buy admission for a small group of family and friends, go into the park, find a nice quiet spot where you can gather for a few minutes, and say your vows. One of the friends is a legally recognized officiant, so California accepts their signature on the paperwork. As long as Disney security does not catch on to what you are doing and does not throw you out of the park, you can then forevermore say that you were married in Disneyland. And, you save a lot of money!
The actual plans were a big secret (to keep loose relatives' lips from sinking the ship) until the day before, when we all got the plan laid out for us. Even then, a last minute illness caused changes to the timing and the exact venue. But, it all worked out wonderfully well, and they got it done.
Here are a few photos of the bride and groom....
Congratulations, Jen and Andrew!
